In North America, The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) method is most commonly used to determine the accurate prayer times in Mississauga. However, there are some communities or Masjids that follow the Muslim World League (MWL) method.

  • According to the ISNA method, all 5 prayer times are calculated by the position of the Sun to the Horizon. Fajr (Pre-dawn prayer) time starts when the Sun is about 18 degrees to the horizon.
  • Dhuhur time begins right after the solar noon. Solar noon means when the Sun reaches its highest point in the sky.
  • According to the ISNA method, Asr prayer time is calculated in two methods. Early Asr: The Early Asr time starts when the shadow of an object becomes equal to its length. Late Asr: The Late Asr time starts when the shadow of an object becomes twice its length.
  • Maghrib prayer time following the ISNA method starts just after sunset. Sunset means that the Sun disappears below the Horizon.
  • Isha prayer time starts when the Sun is 17.5 degrees to the horizon. This means that the day ends and the night starts. Isha’s prayer is performed after the sky gets dark.
